I’m aware that some religions claim that animals do not have souls. Admittedly, I’m not religious, yet just the same I find that so puzzling. As far as I’m concerned, if there is a heaven, then it’s far more likely that animals are going to be there than many humans I know. All I have to do is sit quietly with a sweet creature and look deeply into its eyes to see its very essence and to know that it’s precious beyond measure.
Since no one really knows for sure what happens once we die, each of us gets to choose what to believe. I choose to believe that when we pass on that we are greeted by every soul, human and otherwise, that we’ve ever loved. I envision all of my dogs running to me, shaking their tails and smothering me with kisses. Now if that’s not heaven, I don’t know what is, and I don’t want to go there!
How about you?

I’m with you. When I look into an animal’s eyes, I can see it’s soul. I’ll trust my own instincts on that. Many animals certainly have the capacity to love and trust, be gentle and playful. Humans seem to have decided that we are somehow superior and more worthy than animals. We have decided that about many other things in history and been wrong…men are more important than women, certain races or religions are more important and worthy than others. We’ve always been wrong in those instances, and those attitudes have brought nothing but suffering and pain. I think the human race is wrong here, too; the only difference is that animals have no voice and they cannot fight back.
