Tips
Transition tips for Vegan wanna-be’s:
- Be clear about why you want to be Vegan in the first place. Is this about animal rights for you? Is it about making healthy choices, or protecting the environment? There’s nothing better at the end of the day then to reflect on your purpose and your actions and to know that you stayed true to yourself.
- One meal at a time. Don’t go cold turkey … set the intention to have one completely vegan meal. Then your next meal, and then your next. Make it a conscious choice.
- As you use up non-vegan food items in your home, do not replace them. Find a vegan alternative.
- Start reading ingredient labels when you shop. You’ll be stunned to see how many things include milk, eggs, cheese and meat flavorings. Stay strong and keep looking. I read a lot of labels until I found crackers that were Vegan … turns out there are many tasty options.
- Check out great vegan recipes like the ones on the sidebar fromĀ VeganYumYum. This is my favorite resource. You’ll be astonished by the variety, beauty, and delicious options that await you.
- Keep your pantry and fridge full of healthy vegan snacks so that you won’t be tempted for a quick fix when you’re hungry. Nuts, fruit, pita chips with hummus, and popcorn are some of my favorites.
- Before you go to a restaurant with friends, call in advance and see what menu items they have that will meet your vegan needs. This way you won’t even need to look at the menu when you arrive which minimizes the temptation to stray.
