In Leslie Clark, The Imperfect VeganMarch 2009 I accepted my own personal challenge to be Vegan for 6 weeks.  I would say that I was 95% successful which I consider to be a major triumph.  It wasn’t as hard as I made it up to be in my head, and it felt good inside to be aligned with my intense desire to be someone who reveres all living things.

At the end of those 6 weeks I reassessed how I wanted to be going forward.  And although I aspire to be Vegan 100% … what I’m choosing for now is to be Vegan(ish).  So what does that mean?  Well, to me it means (and by that I mean today) that I no longer eat meat, and if I choose to have cheese, eggs, or fish … it has to be for a really, really good  reason.   AND, the really good reasons must be the exception and not the rule.

So, why a blog you may ask?  Well I’m guessing that there are lots of people like me who have thought about it or may be trying it and would like a little extra support.  Here we can share what’s hard, or in the way of making the vegan leap with humor and compassion, and without judgment or guilt.

I happen to be a Professional Certfied Coach and have been since 1998.  So let’s coach!  Yes, let’s coach here online.  I’ll help you to identify the values you want to honor, see what inner saboteurs are lurking in the shadows, support you in creating a compelling vision, identify clear action, and even provide accountability if you want it.  If you’re reading this I know that you want something to be different with your food choices.  Maybe you’re motivated by health issues, maybe it’s about animal rights, or about protecting the environment.  Whatever it is, let’s help each other create the food-life we most want to be having … now.

Leslie! I love your website and your blogs… I love the colors, layout and topic. I, too, am in the process of changing my eating habits, and I really appreciate reading about the journey you’re on. I will continue to check back to see how you’re doing, and get healthy food ideas.

Hugs,
Karen

Great Website, Leslie. I’m glad I found it. My husband and I have been been vegan for over four years and it was not as hard as one might think. He is a 99.99% vegan and I would classify myself as a 98% vegan because there are probably some animal products in restaurant foods that I am unaware of. We started out one month at a time with the idea that we could stop whenever we wanted and it turned out that we didn’t want to! The real challenge is finding low fat vegan prepared foods that are tasty, and we are willing to throw out anything we buy that just doesn’t taste good. A lot of trial and error has resulted in our kitchen full of staples that we know are quick and easy, healthy and yummy.

Hi Linda! Feel free to share some of your favorite vegan staples … I’m experimenting as well. 4 years? Fantastic!

I just stumbled across you site looking for food ideas. I eat the same way because my body can only handle it this way. I think maybe I just have a sensitive body because if I eat a lot of meat etc I can’t digest it and I all around just feel awful! A huge domino effect, GURD, migraines, lethargy, etc. But if i just eat fruits and veggies, occasional chicken (grilled broiled or boiled, everything else upsets my stomach!) eggs and CHEESE, Im a mouse, then Im all good. In fact since I’ve recognized this about myself I’ve lost about 45 pounds……..I still drink sodas though. I gotta have treats somewhere…. Thank you for this site!
